A new kind of home improvement center officially opened today in Monroe County. We found people lining up for the building materials and household items at a fraction of the retail price. We’re told those bargain buys will turn into helping more people become homeowners.
New and gently used furniture, home goods, building materials and appliances at discounted prices are a welcome sight for East Stroudsburg Resident Jess Erving and her boyfriend.
Erving says, "We’re moving so we’re looking for new furniture and we love restore’s so we wanted to check it out."
They weren’t the only ones taking advantage of the new offering in Marshalls Creek.
Erving says, "We’re buying a little cabinet for $20, it’s awesome."
Bushkill Resident Kathleen Gorski couldn’t wait for the doors to open today for Monroe County’s Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore located in the Village Center off of MIlford Road. She’s been watching the nonprofit’s progress for months after previously visiting one in West Virginia.
Gorski says, "My niece had shown me, she had one there, and that’s where she had furnished her whole apartment. Especially the new stuff, you can get it at Lowe’s or Home Depot for that price."
The best part, it’s not only a great deal for you but for the community.
The proceeds are going to preserving homes and helping more people to become homeowners.
Monroe County Habitat for Humanity Board Member George Leasure says, "We do renovations to bring those places up to living standard so now, with this, once we really get this going, we’re going to build new homes."
Erving tells us it’s a great feeling.
Erving says, "Coming to a place like ReStore, it gives you that opportunity that’s easy, doesn’t go out of your way and then you’re helping people."
You can also help by donating gently used or new store items to keep the asiles stocked. For store hours and more information just go to Monroe County Habitat for Humanity’s Facebook Page.
