NEWS 13 is taking a look at what's new in area school districts this year... and the Pleasant Valley school district is implementing something new as news 13's Ameenah Thompson tells us they're giving students a chance to be more vocal about what they need.

Superintendent James Konrad says, "We do have a new student information system called Power School so one of the big lifts for our community is just to make sure that they're creating the accounts to access all this digital information."

Superintendent James Konrad tells us families will have access to grades, attendance and behavior he says they also changed their bus system.

Konrad says, "PVE the elementary school and then also PVI the intermediate school and so we have students in grades K through 5 on the same buses."

He says that reduces costs for transportation.

Roger Pomposello principal at the elementary school says, "In October we have a country carnival for all the students to promote social play and we have a lot of awesome activities planned throughout the year a lot of hands on activities a lot of stem activities so the kids can discovery new things."

Pleasant Valley elementary principal tells us they're just very excited to welcome all the kids back.

Pomposello says, "We're going to welcome approximately little under 300 student they're going to go on their first bus ride and they get to meet their teacher."

Sabrina Albright principal at the intermediate building says, "In the remainder of August we have find your classroom students get to come in find out where their classroom is see where their lockers are get to know the building a little bit before school starts so they can ease their anxiety."

While the middle school will be giving students a chance to be heard.

Kendal Askins middle school principal says, "We're looking to have like monthly meetings with students and teachers just to get a feel for the culture and how we can continue to develop the culture at the middle school so that students have a sense of ownership."

Co-principal Brian Boylan tells us they now have a central hub for special ed students at the high school filled with resources to support them.

Boylan says,"Our library we have a new addition there where we ended up revamping it where teachers can bring their class down there and it's more along the lines of a flexible teaching area."
