Girls on the Run is a national after-school program designed to teach young girls important life skills through physical activity.
The Lehigh Valley chapter serves all of Lehigh County and parts of Northampton County, and now it's expanding to Carbon County.
But the chapter needs community support. The organization is looking for host sites like schools, community centers, churches or hospitals. Each site needs to have two volunteer mentors who would help with the 10-week program.
"Volunteering as a coach mentor is a wonderful experience. It's definitely a commitment but it's an incredible life-changing experience not just for the girls but also for that adult mentor as well," said Liz Fones, council director of Girls on the Run Lehigh Valley.
The Carbon County chapter hopes to launch in spring 2022. You can learn more by heading to the Girls on the Run website.
