A local church music department celebrates its 11th anniversary offering its free music program to area children.

Zion United Church of Christ in Lehighton is hosting its annual music academy from Sunday, August 1st through Thursday, August 5th. From 6:30pm to 8pm each night kids K-12 and beyond can receive music instruction from three professional instructors. Different stations are set up for various instrument and vocal instruction with snacks served every evening. The academy's director of music says parents with children who enjoy music are encouraged to get them involved in the program.

"Even if your child is not a musician, if they're not in the school band, if they don't play in the chorus at school, send them down to us. If they enjoy listening to music it may open up a door for them they didn't know was there.

Cressley says this year's program theme is "music through the ages" taking a journey through the Jurassic period to cyberspace. On August 5th participants will present a concert at seven p-m demonstrating the songs they worked on throughout the week. To register visit zionlehighton.org or show up fifteen minutes before the start of each night.
