A Palmerton non-profit helps kids get ready to go back to school.

Raising The House is an organization which helps provide funds for needy families in the Palmerton School District.

Members were at St. John's Episcopal Church bright and early to give new backpacks to students who participate in the church's summer breakfast program.

The bags were stuffed with pencils, notebooks, highlighters, and more.

"Everything is brand spanking new and [the bags] are filled to the brim with everything a student could possibly need to get their school year started off right," said Tamara House, who serves on the non-profit's Board of Directors.

Over eighty backpacks were given out this morning.

It's the second year in a row Raising The House has helped students prepare for a new school year.
