When a tractor trailer, hauling plastic pellets called nurdles, crashed off interstate 80 near Crescent Lake it released these plastic bits into a stream which then traveled miles and miles.
The DEP said they would not be assisting in the cleanup effort, and it was a very disappointing moment for local conservation groups in the area.
But instead of complainging about it, Trout Unlimited and the Pocono Heritage Land Trust got a community effort together to clean it themselves. Nearly 100 people came out on a cold, overcast day to do their part for their backyard.
