Former students of a Lehighton elementary school return to say goodbye over the weekend.
Franklin Elementary held a farewell celebration Saturday for the Classes of 1955 through 1969.
Franklin is one of four Lehighton elementary schools closing at the end of this year as the district gears up to open its new elementary center in the fall.
"I went through this school, I was a student as well as working for the school district, this has been my life. It meant a lot to me to do this farewell for everybody and make them feel they're welcomed back again for one last time," said Brenda Eckley, a support staff member at Franklin and an organizer of the farewell celebration.
Those who stopped by Saturday were able to tour the school one last time and enjoy old class photos and other memories.
Staff also revealed the contents of a time capsule which had been buried behind the school's cornerstone since 1955.
