The strong gusting winds and heavy rain caused some problems in Pike County this morning.

The high winds caused trees to snap on Spring Road in Blooming Grove Township. The winds were so strong, they even ripped a stop sign from out of the ground.

One of the trees that collapse, toppled onto the electrical lines on the road. More than 50 households on the street lost power for the better part of the morning.

The township closed down the road until PPL was able to shut off the power going to the lines, so crews were able to safely move the tree off the lines.

Township crews spent the afternoon, clearing the branches and trees from the road. Power was restored in around 10 hours.

Pike EMA officials say the road closure was posted on Pike County's emergency notification system,"Code Red" this morning, but with only 20% of the county signed up, most were left in the dark. They urge all residents to download the "code red" app to have all emergency alerts sent your phone.
