A local nature center spends the weekend teaching little ones about the wonder of butterflies.
Mari Gruber from Bear Mountain Butterfly Sanctuary in Jim Thorpe was at the Da Vinci Science Center in Allentown on Saturday as part of the Center's "Bugging Out Weekend."
Gruber used an interactive presentation to teach kids about an insect that is so much more than just a pretty thing to look at.
"Butterflies are important pollinators. They're more than just a pretty thing flying around in your garden. They're really helping the bees and all the other insects grow flowers, fruits, and vegetables," said Gruber.
Kids in attendance learned about the anatomy of butterflies and moths, as well as the processes of pollination and metamorphosis.
Bear Mountain will be open again in a few months for the summer season.
